Join our friendly and dynamic Urology Diagnostic Unit at St Albans City Hospital as a part-time Band 3 Receptionist (22.25 hours per week), where you’ll play a vital role in supporting patients through their diagnostic journey.

We’re looking for an organised, approachable, and confident individual to provide an exceptional front-of-house service, manage patient bookings, handle enquiries, and work closely with our clinical team in a fast-paced but supportive environment.

Main duties of the job:
  • Welcome patients, visitors, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Admit / discharge appointments, checking referral details and updating electronic records accurately.
  • Coordinate patient flow through the unit, liaising with clinical staff and managing appointment schedules.
  • Handle telephone and email enquiries, providing clear information and signposting as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, scan and upload documents, and manage correspondence.
  • Prepare clinic lists and administrative paperwork to support clinical teams.
  • Ensure the reception and waiting areas are safe, organised, and presentable at all times.
  • Assist with office supplies and administrative stock management.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Trust policies and procedures, including infection-prevention measures.
  • Provide support in managing distressed or anxious patients, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.

This is a part-time position (22.25 hours per week), providing reception and administrative support within the Urology Diagnostic Unit at St Albans City Hospital. The post-holder will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, managing bookings, updating patient records, handling enquiries, and coordinating appointment flow. They will work closely with clinical staff to ensure a smooth, efficient, and patient-focused service while maintaining confidentiality, adhering to Trust policies, and supporting a safe and welcoming environment.

Person specification:
  • Educated to GCSE level or relevant job experience.
  • Working knowledge of hospital computer systems (Patient Centre, Infoflex).
  • Previous NHS administration experience.
  • Experience working in a changing environment.
