We are looking for a part-time fixed-term Radiology Department Assistant to join our dedicated team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate will work across our 3 hospital sites: Watford General Hospital, St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital. Working hours include weekdays, weekends and bank holidays. The post holder will assist in delivering high-quality radiology services, working collaboratively within a dynamic supportive team while maintaining professional relationships across various hospital departments.

Main duties of the job:

  • Welcoming all patients and service users to the department.
  • Completing administrative processes and supporting patient flow through the department.
  • Booking patients in for their examinations and directing patients to the relevant waiting areas.
  • Answering telephone queries.
  • Preparing examination rooms and equipment.
  • Assisting the Radiologists, Radiographers and Radiology Nurses during procedures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

To deliver direct patient care, support equipment maintenance, and perform administrative tasks, including reception and clerical duties, to ensure a high‑quality service for patients. The post holder will contribute to maintaining the department’s professional standards and undertake a range of delegated radiography‑related responsibilities. The role also includes assisting with the transfer of patients to and from the Radiology department.

Person specification:

Education and qualifications:

  • GCSE qualification (Maths, English) or equivalent.
  • NVQ / Level 3 Customer Care, healthcare or willingness to work towards an NVQ / Level 3 qualification.
  • Experience in a customer / patient facing role.
  • Knowledge / Experience of computer systems.

Knowledge:

  • Understands the importance of patient confidentiality and information governance.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
  • Knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a radiology assistant.

Experience:

  • Experience of working in a busy environment.
  • Experience of working in a customer orientated environment.
  • Experience working in a caring/patient facing role and following healthcare protocols and procedures.
  • Experience of handling confidential information.
