We are seeking to recruit an exceptionally skilled Echocardiographer at a Band 7, who shows evidence of excellent clinical ability and is eager to develop their managerial skills. You should have an interest in both training and managing Echocardiographers and need to be keen to support the development of the rapidly growing Echocardiography Department. You will be part of a quality assurance (QA) programme and will be key in the review of echos performed by junior staff. Accreditation with BSE (or equivalent) is essential. Any personal research or clinical interests including ongoing postgraduate study will be supported where possible, and we undertake to develop the successful applicant further. This post has 12.5% R&R attached.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Working with 6 Cardiac Imaging Consultants who take an active role in educational development of Cardiac Sonographers & Physiologists.
  • Chairing the weekly echo meetings where unusual cases and operational issues are discussed.
  • Using Echo equipment including 1 Philips EpiQ, 6 GE E95’s, 3 GE S70.
  • Databasing and reporting all scans on McKesson (Change Healthcare).
  • Managing daily echo lists which include stress echo lists, both DSE and on a bike, and daily availability of TOE including 3D.
  • Running dedicated Specialists valve, heart failure and complex echo clinics across the sites daily.

In 2018 we carried out 14,500 transthoracic echocardiograms and 1,200 stress echo’s annually. The Trust has a dedicated Cardiac CT and MRI suite which opened in November 2016.

Person specification includes:

  • Education and qualifications: BSc Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or recognised equivalent. Transthoracic BSE accreditation or recognised equivalent. RCCP registration. MSc BSE TOE or ESC accreditation. Current ILS.
  • Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of practical and interpretational electrocardiography. Comprehensive knowledge of clinical pathologies and cardiac conditions. Knowledge of cardiac devices and cardiac catheterisation lab procedures.
  • Experience: Sufficient years in echocardiography experience. Experience in a broad range of cardiac disciplines for example ECG, ambulatory ECG analysis and ETT.
