We are seeking to recruit a Consultant Cellular Pathologist (10 PAs) to join our established team within a busy, high-performing Cellular Pathology department at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Based at the fully accredited laboratory in Hemel Hempstead Hospital, the post holder will contribute to a broad range of subspecialty services across the department. The current post has a primary focus on Dermatopathology, with additional contribution to Non-Gynaecological Cytology and Respiratory Pathology services. The department also provides specialist services in breast, gastrointestinal, urology, gynaecological pathology, cervical screening, immunohistochemistry, and bowel cancer screening.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide high-quality histopathology reporting with a primary focus on Dermatopathology, alongside contribution to Non-Gynaecological Cytology and Respiratory Pathology services. The post holder will participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, cancer diagnostics, clinical governance activities, audit, teaching, and service development initiatives across the department. The role includes responsibility for effective workload management, maintenance of turnaround times, and collaborative working with consultant colleagues, biomedical scientists, laboratory teams, and clinical services across multiple hospital sites within the Hertfordshire and West Essex Pathology Network. Opportunities to contribute to wider departmental services, including gastrointestinal, breast, urology, cervical screening, and diagnostic cytology pathways, may also be available depending on service requirements and individual interests.
