Job overview

We are seeking three enthusiastic Consultant Endocrinologists to join our Diabetes and Endocrinology Team. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates wishing to pursue a career in Endocrinology. The successful candidate will join an innovative established team of Consultants, Resident Doctors, Dietitians and Specialist Nurses providing outpatient and inpatient care.

The post-holder will work with colleagues to support and develop Diabetes and Endocrinology services for the local population. Although the position is mainly based at Watford General Hospital, the successful candidate will be expected to work across our sites including St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead General Hospital.

Applicants must have full GMC registration. MRCP (UK) is desirable.

Main duties of the job

This post is for three whole time equivalent substantive Consultants in Diabetes and Endocrinology based at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidates will be expected to work across our three sites, Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead General Hospital and St Albans City Hospital. As we are lead provider for Diabetes within Herts Valley area, the postholder may also need to carry out Diabetes clinics at one of our community sites across the area.

Duties include approximately 5 outpatient clinics per week; intermittent inpatient care for GIM patients, support inpatient diabetes team, electronic triaging, and advice & guidance

There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Major redevelopment works have started with completion of a new multi -storey car park with a plan to modernise the main acute hospital site at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new, depending on which proposal is taken forward. The Trust has also implemented their digitalisation programme with the recent introduction of electronic patient records which has helped streamline patient record access, improve patient care as well as enhancing efficiency and productivity.

There are also plans for new models of care such as developing a diabetes virtual hospital amongst others. As well as this, the trust won the UK Best Employer Award (Nursing Times 2019). The Trust has also recently been granted teaching hospital status in recognition of its wide and well-renowned role in educating doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Candidates will have the opportunity to develop their subspecialty interest in line with the departmental clinical strategy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will work closely with other Consultants, Resident Doctors, Nursing staff, Managers, Medical Secretaries, Admin and other staff across the hospital sites, to deliver clinical services, partake in clinical governance, support clinical leadership to enhance patient safety and experience.

Candidate will be required to have contact with patients, patients’ carers/relatives, and General Practitioners

Qualifications

Applicants must have full GMC registration. MRCP (UK) is desirable.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
