Are you an Advanced Nurse Practitioner who is an independent prescriber and looking to join a friendly, supportive general practice team? We have a vacancy that may suit you! This is a part time role, up to 20 hrs a week, with one working day being a Friday. For the right candidate the salary is negotiable, dependent on experience.
Main duties of the job:
- As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner you will be required to see patients for a range of minor illnesses both as face to face and telephone consultations.
- You will be confident at working autonomously carrying out clinical consultations, providing assessment, diagnosis, treatment and medication through prescribing.
- Treating all ages.
- Assessing, diagnosing and treating a range of acute, non-acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Assist with achieving practice targets.
- Completing any necessary referrals for investigations in the appropriate manner.
About us:
We are looking for a dynamic Advanced Nurse Practitioner to work in our well established practice in the lovely seaside town of Westgate-on-sea. We pride ourselves on having personal lists and our patients love the continuity of care. With 10,000 registered patients, the current team comprises of three GP partners, one salaried GP, two advanced nurse practitioners and a complement of practice nurses, health care assistants, a care coordinator and a general practice assistant. Clinicians meet daily over coffee to discuss clinical issues, offer support and chat. We host an audiology service for our registered patients as well as local practices, alongside first contact physiotherapy sessions.
The Surgery offers:
- Access to a dedicated home visiting service (therefore home visits are minimal).

Job responsibilities:
- Provides a holistic approach to healthcare, drawing from both the nursing and medical model of health and illness where appropriate in order to screen for the early signs of disease and diagnose acute problems.
- Accepts referrals from other disciplines unsupervised.
- Undertakes the independent and autonomous assessment of undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems with attention to physical, emotional, social, cultural and mental health issues.
- Uses sound judgement in assessing conflicting priorities and needs.
- Formulates a diagnosis utilising medical diagnostic problem-solving skills including history taking, physical examination, invasive and non-invasive investigations which involves contact with potential infectious biological substances on a regular basis.
- Initiates appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions including radiology and laboratory investigations, with attention to safety, cost, invasiveness, acceptability and efficacy.
- Prescribes pharmaceutical interventions within own competency.
- Interprets and evaluates diagnostic test results in liaison with the patient and initiates treatment accordingly.
- Ensure clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of competence and acknowledges limitations.
- Contribute to the practice's management of patients needing regular review including those with dementia, mental health problems, learning disability.
- Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team.
