Job Introduction

An opportunity is available for an Operator (Underground) based at Llanfihangel-ar-arth, Carmarthenshire.

As an Operator you will assist a Craftsperson with construction, maintenance, replacement and repair of underground networks up to and including 33kV.

To apply, you willneed to holdEnglish & MathsGCSE (1-9/G-A*) or equivalent qualification deemed to be at the same level in these subjects, such as Functional Skills. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.

Main responsibilities

The work will involve being away from the depot, working on your own or in a team of two people.The working environment requires quick, decisive and responsible actions to meet the demands of the role.

Duties may include:

  • The operation of mechanical equipment
  • Minimisingthe adverse impact of own activities on customers
  • Advisingcustomers affected of the impact of own activities
  • Resolvingcustomer complaints wherever possible
  • Maintaining tools, equipment and vehicles in a safe condition
  • Routine inspection and repairs of equipment

You will need to be flexible in your approach to assist the team in meeting its objectives.Inaddition, you will need to be mobile throughout the area as you may be required to undertake standby duties, therefore a valid driving licence is essential.HGV or excavator experience would be beneficial but is not a necessity.

You will ideally also have some experience in the electrical field although all necessary training will be provided.

National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
