Position Summary

The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs reports to the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs. The role provides supervision and leadership in the development and implementation of data‑driven policies and procedures governing the planning, approval process, and accreditation of academic programs. It supports oversight of academic support services for students and university‑wide programs and may supervise professional and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs with matters of curriculum, assessment, and accreditation, including general education and undergraduate majors, and maintain oversight of the Office of Graduate Studies.
  • Oversee academic administrative matters related to faculty and student supports, relaying final decision‑making to the Provost, including the Honors program, Tutoring Center, Advising Center, Pre‑Collegiate and Access programs, FYE Faculty liaison, Writing Center, and Career Success Center.
  • Establish and monitor metrics for all academic activities related to retention, student success, and program assessment.
  • Develop data‑driven policy and program recommendations for the Provost & VPAA.
  • Provide administrative oversight of national and regional accreditation as well as system‑level Academic Program Review.
  • Manage and develop academic partnerships with high schools for dual and concurrent enrollment, community colleges, and other community partners, including supervision of personnel where applicable.
  • Work with the Grants Office to identify and develop proposals for funding that will assist departments, the division, and the University in fulfilling the academic mission.
  • Serve as the Provost’s representative on appropriate University committees and act as designee in their absence.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities related thereto that do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree.
  • Seven (7) years of administrative experience in academic affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability in academic program development, review, and approval.
  • Experience with higher education accreditation processes.
  • Expertise in quantitative and qualitative data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Experience leading or overseeing academic student support centers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Adept at quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Banner reporting functions.

Work Environment

The incumbent typically works in offices. Periodic evening/weekend commitments for meetings and university events are required. Some travel may be required for system, state, or professional meetings. The work involves extensive use of personal computers and does not normally involve significant physical effort. Salary & Benefits

The hiring salary range is $140,781 – $175,901, commensurate with experience. WCSU offers a comprehensive benefits package. All employment, if offered, is contingent upon proof of citizenship or employability under the Immigration and Control Act (IRCA) and the successful completion of a background check. The background investigations include reference checks, a criminal history record check, and, when appropriate, a financial (credit) report or driving history check.
