Position Summary |
This position supports WCU\’s regional undergraduate engineering technology degree completion programs. The primary location of this position is in Asheville, NC and will include travel to multiple locations in Western North Carolina.
The College of Engineering and Technology (CET) at Western Carolina University (WCU) is growing! The University has received substantial support from the North Carolina legislature to expand engineering to meet the rapidly growing needs of the region and state. Our engineering and engineering technology programs feature project-based learning embedded throughout the curricula, preparing our students for professional practice and advanced study. Industry engagement is a hallmark of our programs, and we pride ourselves as having faculty with significant industry experience. Our culture embraces faculty-student interaction through experiences such as undergraduate research. We are committed to changing the lives of our students and their families through a transformative experience at our rural main-campus setting in the mountains of western North Carolina, and at sites in Asheville and across western NC. The college\’s programs are instrumental to the economic vitality of the region, and are advancing the university to be one of the nation\’s premier regional comprehensive institutions. We are creating leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs with the foundation and skills needed for transformative careers in engineering and beyond. This opening is a 12-month fixed-term position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice; the rank will be determined upon hire. This Asheville-based position will require teaching in the evenings using face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities. Service duties will require travel within Western NC and may extend beyond the region. Anticipated begin date is August 2025. Successful candidates will be committed to teaching at the undergraduate level in one or more of the following areas:
There may be additional opportunities to teach at the graduate level. Faculty in the Professor of Practice position will demonstrate excellence in teaching and service. Responsibilities include supporting the program director of the distance program with tasks such as assessment, capstone projects, recruitment, program development and expansion, and other duties assigned by the school director.
