Are you an experienced L&D Specialist looking for an opportunity where you can make a difference? If so, we would love to hear from you! We are one of the largest independent operators of crematoria in the UK, supported by almost 500 empathetic and dedicated individuals and we are growing. We have more than 42 sites across the country and 3 business areas.
This is a remote / hybrid role with travel to attend meetings / for training as required each month (2-3 times on average but this will vary so flexibility is key). Our key office spaces for face-to-face training are located in Bristol and Cannock so the ability to travel to these locations and other venues is important.

The role: This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys creating engaging learning experiences, building relationships across a business and supporting colleagues to learn, grow and develop. Working closely with the Head of Learning & Development, you’ll support the delivery of our L&D strategy and play a key role in driving a modern, self-led learning culture across Westerleigh Group. As a small team of 2 this is a great opportunity to really grow and develop a variety of skills.
This is a varied role combining learning administration, digital learning, stakeholder engagement and training delivery. You’ll help manage and evolve our learning platform (Thrive), create engaging content and support colleagues through every stage of the learning journey.
We’re looking for someone who is curious, organised, confident communicating with stakeholders and passionate about making learning accessible, engaging and impactful.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working with the Head of Learning and Development and internal stakeholders to understand the business plan and development strategy.
- Role modelling the promotion of a self-led learning culture to colleagues at all levels.
- Encouraging the use of learning in the flow of work, through bite-sized and microlearning content.
- Design and deliver behavioural development training sessions including facilitating Memorial Sales Training, Personal Resilience training, Connections and how to influence, Challenging conversations and Quality conversations.
- Creating engaging digital learning content using Articulate Storyline 360 and Rise 360.
- Co-ordinating in-house training courses, including administration, booking management, attendance and maintaining training events calendar.
- Maintaining collaborative relationships with external providers – training providers, print companies etc.
- Tracking and recording of all training across the group, identifying refresher training as appropriate.
- First point of contact for training queries and requests.
- Managing the L&D inbox and providing advice to colleagues in relation to learning and development.
- Managing phased new starter onboarding process, including delivering virtual check in sessions.
- Managing the learning and communications platform and learning experience (Thrive).
- Delivering organisation wide reporting, overseeing mandatory training assignments and staying up to date with new digital enhancements to optimise the end user experience.
- Working with stakeholders and SMEs to design in-house eLearning modules and other learning materials.
- L&D reporting to business heads; updating and collating data.
- Staying up to date with emerging trends and technologies that will help shape the future of L&D at Westerleigh Group.
About you: Previous experience in a similar L&D Specialist role as a Learning & Development Specialist / Learning Experience Specialist / Digital Learning Specialist. Training design and delivery. Experience of managing an LXP (We use Thrive). Creating eLearning content using Articulate Storyline 360 and Rise 360. IT literacy (Windows XP/Microsoft Office/Teams/E-mail). Strong and successful stakeholder management. High level of communication skills. Experience delivering training, facilitation or behavioural development workshops. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. A proactive and self-motivated approach. Experience of using Canva and Adobe preferred. Insights Discovery Practitioner would be desirable although training can be provided.
