Introduction to role
Our client is the global market leader in Airport & Parcel Solutions, and sorting systems for Warehouse Solutions. Working within the UK Project Delivery Engineering team for Airport & Parcel Solutions, you will have opportunities and potential to join a wide and diverse range of projects and will contribute to sales and engineering projects on design safety of material handling systems. In this role you will work closely with the team of Design Safety Engineers guiding and supporting projects for increasing the maturity of design safety compliance through design reviews and site inspections of mechanical, electromechanical and controls systems. You will provide professional expert skills and knowledge and effectively communicate, technical recommendations to key stakeholders that will include Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Design Engineers, Project Managers, HSEQ teams and Customers while maintaining a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Your responsibilities and activities will include:
• Championing, encouraging and leading by example to deliver a safety-first culture.
• utilise expert skills and knowledge to guide multiple project teams, internal and external suppliers to deliver safe system design solutions, with the ability to deal with ambiguity to make and own risk-based decisions
• Identifying design safety uncertainty through effective risk analysis and propose mitigations as well as executing site inspections
• Champion Design Safety for the lifecycle of the equipment, during the tendering and sales phase through to design, build, installation, commissioning, deployment, operational use, decommissioning and disposal for project team members and end users
• Continuously improve and grow your own and teams technical and professional development, sharing lessons learned across projects and products
• Able to identify non-compliance through audit of the system design from start of pre bid phase, through Engineering and handover phases to provide a Declaration of Conformance (CE/UKCA)
• Communicate effectively with project and management teams on status and performance, highlighting potential risks and solutions
• Be a trusted partner with our clients customers through effective, collaborative working relationships. Have an ability to discuss and advise customers and suppliers on machinery safety and legislative compliance to ensure that customers\’ expectations are met or exceeded
Role Qualification and Skills
• Exposure in working in similar role or environment
• BSc/MSc in Engineering field
• Understanding of the machinery directive (2006/42/EC) and experience in the application of safety standards such as EN 619; ISO 13849-1/2; ISO 13850, ISO 14122-1 till -4; IEC 60204-1)
• Qualified in machine safety CMSE (Certified Machine Safety Expert) or equivalent.
• Knowledge of electrical safety and 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
• Competency in PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998).
• Evidence of working in the area of machine safety.
• Formal health, safety and environment qualification (CDM, IOSH, NEBOSH, SMSTS)
• Professionally Accredited with an engineering body or aiming to be.
• Proven track record in material handling systems strongly preferred. Experience of airport baggage handling or parcel systems (note training will be given in these disciplines).
• Proven track record with customer interaction by the means of presenting, workshops etc. strongly preferred.
