We’re Westcotts – a Top 50+50 Accountancy Practice and Top 50 Apprenticeship Employer, with over 300 team members based across Devon and Somerset. We’re looking for a Trainee Part-Qualified Accounts Technician to join our Exeter office on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is already studying – or looking to continue studying – towards their AAT qualification, while building real experience in a supportive and professional accountancy practice.
You will continue studying AAT Level 4 (ideally through an apprenticeship agreement, although this is not essential). The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification provides a strong foundation in accounting and finance and can lead to a rewarding long-term career in the profession. At Westcotts, we will support you throughout your studies with mentoring, guidance, and full funding for your qualification. Alongside your studies, you’ll gain valuable experience supporting the team in delivering a wide range of accounting and taxation services to our clients.
Main Duties Responsibilities
- Assisting with the preparation of financial statements for a range of clients including limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
- Preparing and supporting the completion of personal and corporate tax computations and returns
- Supporting the preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Providing bookkeeping services and maintaining accurate financial records
- Using accounting software to record and process financial transactions
- Assisting with gathering and analysing financial information to support reporting and decision-making
- Working closely with colleagues to deliver high-quality client service
- Providing general administrative support to the team where required
Attributes, Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- You will have completed your AAT Level 3 and be looking to continue your studies.
- Previous experience of working within a practice environment is essential.
- Good working knowledge of Word and Excel, and the ability to learn new IT skills quickly.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven accuracy, and an eye for detail.
- Outgoing, socially confident with a positive and friendly attitude.
- Takes the initiative, ability to prioritise, and meet deadlines.
- Professional and team orientated in approach.
- Analytical, methodical, and numerical.
- Adaptable, organised, and conscientious.
Terms / Benefits
- 36.25 hours / 5 days per week.
- Annual salary review and regular salary reviews whilst training.
- 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays increasing to 25 days plus bank holidays after 3 years’ service.
