Working patterns and contracted hours to be discussed at interview. We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our multidisciplinary team. The post holder will work under the supervision of registered nurses to deliver high quality, patient‑centred care in a safe and supportive clinical environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual committed to providing outstanding care while developing both generic and specialist clinical skills.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver compassionate, patient-focused care at all times
- Support registered nurses in maintaining a safe and caring environment
- Assist patients with personal care, mobility, and independence
- Monitor and record clinical observations such as:
- Blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, and oxygen saturation
- Fluid balance, weight, food intake, and blood glucose levels
- Assist in clinical procedures and support the surgical team where required
- Provide post‑operative advice and reassurance to patients
- Escort patients safely between departments
- Ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of patient records
- Maintain cleanliness, stock levels, and safety within the clinical environment

Job responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team
- Carry out delegated clinical tasks following training and competency assessment
- Support patient care including hygiene, nutrition, and mobility
- Assist with specimen collection, labelling, and dispatch
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation
Governance and Safety
- Work within clinical governance frameworks
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives
- Adhere to safeguarding policies and report concerns appropriately
- Maintain awareness of risk management and patient safety
Education and Development
- Participate in appraisals and continuous professional development
- Maintain mandatory and statutory training compliance
- Develop clinical skills such as phlebotomy and ECG recording (where required)
- Support new staff, students, and learners
General Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality in line with data protection legislation
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures
- Comply with health and safety policies (COSHH, fire safety, etc.)
- Promote a respectful and inclusive environment for patients and colleagues
Person Specification
Experience
- Minimum 6 months experience in healthcare ward/department environment
- Experience working in a day case unit or independent sector
Qualifications
- GCSE or equivalent grade A to C in English and Maths
- NVQ/QCF Qualification at level 2 or 3
