This post is a fixed‑term associate GP role within a well‑run GP medical practice in Bristol starting in September/October 2026.
The suitable candidate will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a Primary Care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
We offer full workflow optimisation to help manage your administrative workload. An induction programme and a mentor for ongoing support. We are a dynamic and innovative team, always open to new ideas.
We are recruiting for 3–4 sessions a week. The successful candidate will ideally be available to work on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.
There is an expectation that all clinicians contribute to any additional NHS contractual hours. At this time, this would be for 30 minutes per week. Time off in lieu/shifting usual surgery times would be offered in exchange.
You will accrue pro‑rata annual leave and study leave. The full‑time equivalent for one year is 6 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays, plus one week study leave.
On‑call sessions are calculated fairly and equally between all GPs. The pro‑rata share is based on the total number of sessions worked by all the GPs.
The contract includes membership with the NHS Pension Scheme and reimbursement for any MDU fees for the period of the contract.
At this stage the contract is fixed term but if any opportunities arise to extend the contract, this will be discussed with the successful candidate at that time.
Main duties of the job
- Make yourself available to undertake surgery consultations, telephone consultations, queries, home visits, signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
- Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
- Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
- Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
- In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, develop care plans.
- Provide counselling and health education.
- Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
- Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
- Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible).
- Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever clinically appropriate.
- Undertake all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Other responsibilities within the organisation
- Be aware of and comply with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
- Commit to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
- Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
- Contribute to the development of computer‑based patient records.
- Contribute to summarising patient records and read‑coding patient data.
- Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

We are a friendly teaching practice providing primary care services in Bristol. We are a practice in the centre of Westbury on Trym in a new purpose‑built building serving our community.
Westbury On Trym is situated in the heart of Northwest Bristol. This is a beautiful area of the city for families and professionals and there is an above‑average elderly population.
The premises are owned by the partnership and are modern, purpose‑built and inviting to staff and patients alike.
We are a non‑dispensing PMS practice, with a strong interest in both teaching and research. We have a low home visit rate, and are a stable and successful business with 5 GP partners, 5 salaried doctors and an excellent team of advanced nurse practitioners, nurses and practice administration staff.
There is a strong team ethos within the practice, and it is very important to the partners that this is maintained and developed.
We understand how busy the life of a GP is and we do everything we can to offer support. Our workflow optimisation team safeguards our GPs from unnecessary clinical letters. Our duty sessions are supported by our advanced nurse practitioners, and we know the importance of meeting to facilitate case discussions.
Our GPs are further supported by our PCN staff. We have a social prescriber, clinical pharmacists, a care co‑ordinator, mental health practitioner and a first contact physiotherapist.
Qualifications
- GMC Full Registration
- Membership of a recognised defence union (MPS/MDU)
- Currently on a performers list and has never been removed from a performers list for a detrimental reason
- MRCGP
- Experience of EMIS clinical system
- Post‑graduate qualification in any specialty
- Experience of Docman, TeamNet and AccuRx

- Understands the importance of evidence‑based practice and clinical effectiveness
- Evidence of recent self‑directed learning or development
- A good understanding of Clinical Governance and quality issues as well as current health and social policy
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
