Make a real difference every day by helping to keep Westbourne School a clean, safe and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. We’re looking for a reliable and motivated Cleaning Operative to join our friendly on‑site team and deliver a high‑quality daily cleaning service across the school.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll play a key part in maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the building. Your work will help create a positive environment where everyone can thrive. Daily responsibilities include:
- Carrying out general cleaning tasks such as emptying bins, vacuuming carpets, damp dusting, floor care and washroom cleaning
- Using electrical cleaning equipment, including suction machines and floor maintenance machinery
- Responding to emergency cleaning needs, including floods or bodily fluids
- Communicating effectively with the site representative and your cleaning colleagues
- Completing any additional duties appropriate to the role
- Following all health and safety procedures, including COSHH, risk assessments, colour‑coding and manufacturer instructions
- Delivering cleaning services in line with the site’s contract specification and service level agreement
- Ensuring all on‑site documentation (e.g., health and safety folder) is followed
- Managing your time effectively and working to agreed standards
- Providing excellent customer care and maintaining a professional, positive attitude

- Has experience liaising with premises supervisors and frontline staff
- Ideally has some understanding of the cleaning industry (desirable, not essential)
