West Berkshire Council is seeking a Management Support Assistant to provide comprehensive and confidential support to the Corporate Leadership Team, Corporate Management Team, and Statutory Officers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate professional executive support and administrative services for the CLT/CMT.
  • Manage inboxes and diaries for senior managers, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.
  • Provide cover for the Executive Support function, maintaining high standards and consistency.
  • Handle internal and external enquiries and complaints with tact and diplomacy.
  • Support research, collate and present information, and assist with ad‑hoc projects.
  • Organise conferences, travel, and accommodation for the CLT/CMT.
  • Prepare complex, statutory, or sensitive reports and take action notes at meetings.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders, including MPs, Thames Valley Police, other Berkshire authorities, and voluntary organisations.
  • Maintain effective relationships across the Council and with external partners.
  • Ensure compliance with information governance and financial regulations.
  • Promote equality, health and safety, and uphold Council values.

Person Specification

Essential

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and ICT at grade C or above.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Experience as an Executive Assistant or Management Support Assistant.
  • Advanced ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Diplomatic and confident in liaising at all levels.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt, with a flexible approach to problem solving.

Desirable

  • Experience in local government or customer service environments.
  • Financial and budget awareness.
  • Mediation skills and understanding of Council strategy and policy.
