Assistant Corporate Accountant – West Yorkshire Police
Finance Department, Wakefield
One full-time permanent post (37 hours a week)
£35,526.00 – £37,692.00 per annum
Your new role
In this role you will be responsible for the delivery of a short and medium term budgeting service with detailed and innovative forecasting analysis to support strategic decision making within the Force on efficient and effective use of resources.
Your Purpose:
• Provision of specialist advice on financial and commercial
management issues to the Chief Officer Team, Force Senior Leadership Teams and at force level. Support to operational and strategic decision-making and planning processes.
• Production of financial modelling work in support of short, medium and long-term financial strategies and force objectives to ensure that there is a sound understanding of costs to ensure value for money
• Prepare financial forecasts, budgets, outturn and specific closure of accounts requirements in accordance with corporate objectives and are prepared in line with financial regulations, financial instructions, and recommended financial practice.
• Provide comprehensive, timely, written analysis and insight on regular financial information to the Chief Officer Team, and where appropriate budget holders in support of the Force Policing Plan.
• Ad hoc projects and support to the Finance Director.
What you\’ll need to succeed
• A holder of the AAT qualification.
• Developed commercial knowledge and business
understanding. Strong technical accounting skills & knowledge and good excel skills.
• Experience of budgetary control, financial planning and forecasting at a senior level
• Strong people skills; comfortable in interacting with operational and financial staff and management at all levels of seniority.
• Well-developed communication and influencing skills. Collaborative approach.
• Attention to detail whilst still being able to work at a tactical level.
