XC7324 - CAID Officer (Child Abusive Images Database) *External*

West Yorkshire Police is seeking to recruit a Child Abuse Image Database (CAID) Officer to work within its Digital Forensic Unit located at Calder Park, Wakefield. This is a fixed term role, which is currently until 31/03/2027. It is anticipated that the contract will be extended on an annual basis.

CAID is a Home Office‑led project used daily by UK Police forces. It is a recognised database of indecent images of children, holding approximately 158 million images, which assists in the identification of victims of abuse and the prosecution of suspects under investigation.

The main responsibility of the CAID Officer is to support the operational use of CAID by providing a comprehensive data update and extraction service for all users. This involves coordinating support and compliance with the national system of grading abusive images, sharing best practice, and compliance with legislation. Regular contact with Home Office partners to provide daily performance reports forms an important part of the role, as does working with technical partners on the introduction of new developments such as facial matching to improve CAID effectiveness.

Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last five years. Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused because it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.

To be considered for this role, you must hold a relevant degree or have relevant experience/expertise. You must have good knowledge and experience of working in a technical or digital business area and be willing to undertake and successfully complete training and/or courses for the role as appropriate.

The ideal candidate will be technically adept in the use of computers, able to liaise with other forces around the country, and capable of sharing knowledge and learning with others in oral, written, and other formats. You must also be prepared to update managers locally on operational issues and strategic development plans.

The successful candidate will have the physical and emotional resilience to regularly deal with abusive and offensive imagery of extreme violence, obscenity, and depravity. Due to the nature of the images held on the database, the appointed candidate must be willing to undergo psychological assessment.

As the role involves travel and the provision of training throughout the UK, a valid UK driving licence is essential.
