This vacancy has been advertised externally for the position of Animal Assistant within West Yorkshire Police.
Operational Support: 1 full-time permanent post (37 hours per week).
Salary: Β£22,101.00 to Β£22,671.00 per annum plus enhancements.
A 24/7 shift pattern is in operation at the Unit.
As an Animal Assistant, you will need to be good at working as part of a team, have exceptional communication skills, and be happy to work with animals. You would relish the opportunity to work with animals and be motivated by the rewarding nature of the job. Your remit would be to ensure the welfare of seized animals is looked after and to maintain stock levels of food and cleaning products.
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Caring for seized animals
- Feeding
- Cleaning
- Exercising
- Basic medical care
This role is pivotal in ensuring the welfare of animals in police custody.
Key Requirements:
- Previous experience with animals is essential.
- The successful candidate will need to work as part of a team.

There is also the potential to progress to the role of Animals Collection Officer, which entails attending seizures of animals and transporting them to the kennels. Additionally, there is scope to develop grooming skills and provide medical care for dogs.
