This vacancy is part of a developmental progression role where the employee can develop into intermediate and advanced levels based on their competency, this is normally achieved through a combination of training and experience.
West Yorkshire Police are looking to recruit a Technical Surveillance Officer within the Regional Technical Surveillance Unit to service both West Yorkshire and its constituent forces with technical support within the Yorkshire area. The YHROCU Technical Surveillance Unit supports and assists in the gathering of Intelligence and Evidence on behalf of investigations into all levels of criminality with the priority being in support of Serious and Organised Crime, Major Crime investigations and Anti-Corruption.
The Technical Surveillance Officer role is critical to ensuring the department successfully obtains and delivers this intelligence and evidence to its customers. As part of the team you will provide specialist support and technical assistance with covert and overt surveillance operations and to assist in the detection and prevention of serious crime across the Yorkshire & Humber region.
To be considered for this role, you must hold a relevant degree level qualification or significant equivalent accredited professional experience within a relevant technical discipline. We are offering this opportunity to candidates with knowledge of electrical and electronic principles, as well as being competent in the use of computerised systems.
The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively on your own initiative, working well under pressure in stressful and potentially dangerous circumstances. In addition, you must hold a full current UK/European driving licence with the ability to work from within a vehicle whilst travelling for extended periods of time.
Regional Technical Surveillance Officers are required to work unsociable hours on occasions often at short notice and must be able to carry a considerable amount of heavy equipment over considerable distances. You will also undertake covert urban and rural deployment of equipment.
In this role you will be required to cover 24 hours call out for crime in action requests, this attracts a standby allowance. The successful candidate will be subject to enhanced personal and financial vetting checks prior to appointment, and must be able to successfully pass the relevant College of Policing TSU Course.
