Solicitor or Legal Executive – Legal Services
Location: Wakefield
Hours: Full time – 37 hours per week – flexible and hybrid working
Salary: Solicitors Grade Scheme – £47,385 to £75,537 (starting salary between £47,385 and £68,322)

About the role

West Yorkshire Police is one of the largest in‑house police legal teams in the country. We provide a wide range of legal advice and support to the entire force, covering civil litigation, commercial work, operational policing and police misconduct cases. The team works on high‑profile civil claims, discipline, inquests, inquiries and large operational incidents such as protests and class actions. No prior police law experience is required; training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with 1 year PQE or equivalent experience
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel within the Force area, with access to a vehicle for business purposes
  • Legal advice across civil, commercial, operational and misconduct matters, including real‑time support during major incidents
  • Contribute to a varied caseload and progress towards higher rights of audience
