West Yorkshire Police is seeking an experienced HR professional to join our Employee Relations team within the People Directorate for an immediate vacancy. The role is key to delivering a responsive and high-quality service that supports managers and staff in navigating complex people matters and applying policy effectively across the organisation.

As an Employee Relations Consultant, you will:

  • Provide expert advice and support on a wide range of employee relations matters, including absence management, discipline, grievances, performance, probation, and reasonable adjustments.
  • Attend and advise at departmental people meetings, contributing to case management and highlighting areas requiring intervention.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation, police regulations, and internal policies to ensure consistent and compliant advice.
  • Support misconduct investigations and act as adviser to the Chair at local misconduct meetings.
  • Contribute to organisational change processes and policy development, when required, using practical experience to influence improvements.
  • Engage in consultation and negotiation with Trade Unions and Staff Associations, building effective working relationships.
  • Deliver training, coaching, and briefings to managers and staff on people policies, legislation, and case law.
  • Analyse HR management information to identify areas for improvement and provide expert advice to address these.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • CIPD qualified to Level 5 or working towards, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Proven experience working within a HR function with strong knowledge of employment legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience providing people-related advice and guidance to managers and stakeholders.
  • Experience in report writing and presenting management information.
  • Experience working with Trade Unions and Staff Associations.
  • (Desirable) Experience advising on a diverse range of employee relations issues.
  • (Desirable) Experience in policy design and development.
