Overview

AUDIO TRANSCRIBER – West Yorkshire Police, Criminal Justice

Location: Wakefield. Contracted hours: 1 x Full Time (37 hours per week) and 1 x Part Time (30 hours per week).

Responsibilities

  • Provide copy typing, full transcripts and an interview summarising service to the Force.
  • Produce text from hand-written evidential documents, other documentation and transcribe digital formats.
  • Transcribe suspect interviews to produce an exhibited document consisting of verbatim and summary form, meeting required accuracy standards within agreed timescales.

Role Details

Due to the nature of some investigations, this role involves transcribing highly sensitive and at times distressing content, including material of a sexual and violent nature. Some interviews may involve multiple speakers and/or a mix of nationalities and dialects.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Good standard of literacy and excellent listening skills with a keen ear for detail.
  • Comfortable with various accents and dialects.
  • Ability to use a range of computerised systems and packages, including Microsoft Office.

Training and Assessment

  • Must undertake and pass relevant training on West Yorkshire Police computerised systems and the in-house Audio Transcription Summarising course.
  • An audio transcribing test will be conducted during the interview to assess capability to complete the Audio Transcription Summarising course.

Vetting and Compliance

  • Subject to personal and financial vetting checks prior to appointment.
  • The 2024 version of the Competency Values Framework applies to this process. Please disregard any old link to the 2016 version contained in the role profile.
