We currently have a vacancy for a Travel Information Officer (Data) to join our Travel Information Data Team in Passenger Experience. Following the Mayor’s decision to bring buses back under local control, there has never been a better time to join our Travel Information Team within Passenger Experience. As our new Travel Information Officer, you will play a key role in the transition to a franchised bus network, helping to shape the future of public transport services for the people of West Yorkshire.
You will be responsible for inputting bus registration data into our Public Transport Data Management tool to feed various passenger information outputs, ensuring accessibility and understanding for a broad range of customer audiences. This includes printed timetables, website pages, roadside displays, real-time systems, local/national journey planners, and apps. This process covers six major annual bus service changes, ad-hoc service updates, and seasonal variations, all whilst meeting fixed deadlines. Your work is crucial to the success of timely information being available for our customers.
To meet the tight deadlines of this role, you will demonstrate a keen eye for detail and relish the challenge of working as part of a fast-paced team. The Role
Reporting into the Team Leader (Travel Information – Data), your key responsibilities will include:
- Translating bus registration data to accurately plot routes and variants in Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping software.
- Accurately editing timing points and key service information into logical sequence to ensure the correct presentation of passenger information across all outputs.
- Interpreting and interrogating technical bus service registration documents for accuracy.
- Identifying issues/potential issues, assessing the impact across all customer information outputs (timetables, journey planner etc) and investigating the root cause and implementing solutions.
- Sort Roadside Displays (RSDs) into geographical and numerical order to fixed deadlines for the major service changes.
About You
You will have the following key skills, attributes, education, and experience:
- Educated to A Level or equivalent relevant education/ experience.
- A working knowledge of the geography of West Yorkshire and its public transport network.
- Practical knowledge and experience of the public transport network across the North of England.
- Information systems (GIS) mapping or equivalent and working with O/S mapping bases or equivalent.
- Experience of effectively contributing to team objectives.
