We are currently recruiting for a Policy & Casework Support Officer to join our Mayoral Office team.

This exciting role will put you as Policy & Casework Support Officer within a key role at the heart of a fast-paced and dynamic team, providing day-to-day support to the Mayor as she delivers on her commitments to the region.

As Policy & Casework Support Officer, you will provide high-quality professional support to the Mayor and work closely with colleagues across the wider Mayoral team. You will help manage a varied and sensitive caseload, contribute to policy development, and ensure effective coordination between the Mayoral Office and West Yorkshire Combined Authority teams. Success in this role requires sound judgement, discretion, and a commitment to handling information with integrity. You will be a trusted first point of contact, helping to maintain strong relationships, smooth communication, and a consistently high standard of service across the organisation.

This post is subject to vetting clearance. The Role

Reporting into the Mayoral Policy & Casework Support Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing professional, confidential and expert policy support to the Mayor and the Mayoral team, enabling the delivery of the Mayor of West Yorkshire’s manifesto through managing email inboxes and responding to casework, liaising and working with a wide range of stakeholders within the Combined Authority, other stakeholders and the region.
  • Providing an interface between the Mayor and the Combined Authority’s policy, strategy and delivery teams, ensuring actions requested by the Mayor are proactively followed up and delivered accordingly.
  • Preparing reports, briefings and other materials for the mayoral team in close liaison with other departments.

About You

You will have the following key skills, attributes, education and experience:

  • Educated to degree or equivalent relevant education/experience.
  • Experience of working in a similar role within a political environment.
  • Current knowledge and awareness of national legislation, policies and developments relevant to economic growth, devolution and Mayoral policy priorities.
  • Experience in supporting policy research projects.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and excellent ability to use various sources of evidence and data to reach conclusions.
