We are excited to announce a new vacancy for a Finance Assistant within our Corporate Finance Team. As our new Finance Assistant, you will work across the full purchase‑to‑pay and income cycle, gaining hands‑on experience in processing invoices, preparing payments, reconciling bank activity, and supporting key financial controls. This role is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring Finance Assistant who wants to build a solid foundation in both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, whilst developing confidence with internal financial systems and processes.

As a Finance Assistant within the Combined Authority, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across the wider Finance function, including Finance Business Partners, and provide support to a range of internal directorates. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a busy, collaborative environment and is looking for a role that offers genuine development, exposure to multiple areas of finance, and the chance to make a meaningful contribution from day one.

The Role

Reporting into the Finance Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Timely and accurate input into a range of financial systems including AP ledger, AR ledger, journal entries and bank reconciliation.
  • Assistance across a range of other financial work including reconciliations, support with preparation of financial accounts, recharge calculations, budget variance analysis.
  • Resolving/managing queries from both internal and external sources.

About You

You will have the following key skills, attributes, education, and experience:

  • Have a strong understanding and demonstrable experience of financial controls and procedures, ideally within a Local Authority environment.
  • Have strong team working skills, be results / deadline driven and support partnership working across the whole organisation.
  • Be educated to GCSE level or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Have experience in a similar role.
