Full time / Permanent - 37 hours per week. Please note that the Combined Authority will consider requests for part-time working and/or job share.

We currently have a vacancy for a Bus Service Coordinator to join our Franchising Network team. This is an incredible opportunity to contribute to the delivery of the mayor’s pledge to bring buses back under public control, introduce simpler fares, contactless ticketing, and greener buses. As part of the team, you will play a key role in West Yorkshire’s bus reform at a pivotal time, as the region transitions to a franchised bus network under local control.

As a Bus Service Coordinator, you will be responsible for leading the analysis of bus service changes, assessing their impact on a range of factors and developing strategies to address any challenges. You will also take the lead in designing, costing, and implementing revisions to the bus network, working closely with bus operators to ensure smooth service delivery and improve the overall experience for passengers. This involves close collaboration in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver efficient use of resources and funding, whilst monitoring the financial performance of funded services and working to reduce cost where appropriate.

The Role

Reporting into the Network Manager within Bus Franchising, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Informing internal and external stakeholders (including MP’s and councillors) and the public of changes to Bus Services or to explain the current Bus Service provision.
  • Providing expertise in the appraisal of the Highways and Infrastructure implications of Bus Service Network changes and recommend improvements where necessary to meet passenger needs.
  • Monitoring the workflow of the team to deliver a strong performance management culture, where people are accountable for the delivery of results.

About You

You will have the following key skills, attributes, education and experience:

  • Extensive knowledge and expertise of the UK Bus, Rail or Tram industry, including bus/crew scheduling and network planning.
  • Detailed understanding of local transport policy issues, including current legal/financial regime in which local Public Transport is delivered.
  • Good understanding of public policy issues including processes by which policy changes.
  • Experience of managing people including appraisals, performance management, disciplinary, recruitment and selection.
  • Ability to design and plan Bus Services to meet organisational and/or customer needs.
  • Ability to estimate costs and resource requirements for new and amended Bus Services.
