Salary £14-£16 per hour based on experience

Location Horsham

Work setting In person / office based - The club operates Monday to Wednesday 10:15 am – 3:30 pm and Thursday 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Hours Part Time- 15 hours-possibly increasing to 20 hours with flexibility

The Assistant Manager will work closely with the Club Manager to oversee daily operations, coordinate therapeutic activities, and support our vital network of volunteers. You will also be required to supervise professional carers contracted through a local agency. This role ensures that our sessions run smoothly, safely, and in line with our core values of hope, patience, and mutual encouragement. You will act as a key point of contact for members, families, and visiting therapists

Key Responsibilities

• Daily Operations: Assist the Club Manager in setting up and managing daily sessions, lunches and specialised communication groups




• Volunteer Coordination: Support, guide and help schedule our dedicated volunteers to maintain excellent support ratios for members




• Member Support: Welcome new referrals, assess member needs and foster an inclusive, empathetic community environment




• Therapist Liaison: Coordinate schedules with visiting professionals, including speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists.




• Administration & IT: Manage day-to-day administrative tasks, update member records, and assist with session data entry.




• Members Subscriptions: Assist with the collection and recording of members subscriptions




• Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with adult safeguarding, health and safety regulations, and first aid procedures during all club activities

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: Proven experience working within a health, social care or community charity setting. Experience with stroke recovery or neurological conditions is highly desirable

• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to connect with vulnerable adults, families and external healthcare agencies




• Organisation: Strong multitasking abilities, capable of working effectively under pressure and handling administrative tasks efficiently




• Activities: The ability to assist and/or lead with craft and other group activities




• Technical Skills: Competency in basic IT packages (e.g., Microsoft Office, email, and basic data spreadsheet entry)




• Compliance: Must pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and possess knowledge of adult safeguarding policies. Essential to have a clear understanding of the need for confidentiality concerning members and their circumstances

The Phoenix Stroke Club is a registered, 100% self-funded independent charity based in Horsham. For over 45 years, we have provided a safe, welcoming, and happy environment for stroke survivors and individuals with similar neurological conditions. Through communication groups, physical exercises, and social outings, our goal is to restore confidence, improve mobility, and support our members and their families.
