About the role:

As part of West Suffolk Council's commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2039, we continue to invest in projects and initiatives that reduce energy consumption, improve efficiency, and support a more sustainable future for our communities. To help deliver these ambitions and build future skills within the organisation, we are recruiting our first Energy Apprentice who will support the council's energy and sustainability programme while developing valuable experience and gaining a qualification.

  • We are offering an exciting opportunity where you "earn and learn". This apprenticeship pathway will give you the hands-on experience, knowledge and confidence to lead you into your chosen career and give you the chance to fully realise your potential within a fast-paced and proactive organisation.
  • As a member of the Energy Team, you will assist the team with their delivery of a range of decarbonisation projects which currently include deploying electric vehicle infrastructure, installing heat pumps and solar PV.
  • You will undertake a mix of technical, analytical, and administrative tasks aimed at improving the council's energy efficiency and reducing utility costs.
  • You may also handle customer enquiries, provide administrative support using IT skills to access and input information on IT systems, and analyse data to show the impact of your work.
  • The role offers lots of variety and opportunities for learning, within a fast-paced, supportive and friendly environment where no two days are the same. The role has been designed for those looking for a career in energy management or sustainability.
  • Whilst working, you will complete a Level 3 Energy Manager qualification for which you will be entitled to paid study time to complete; this is linked to the national apprenticeship scheme.
  • You will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, apply your learning and develop new skills whilst building your confidence along the way.

What you will need:

You don’t need any work experience, but you will need to be willing to learn, demonstrate good communication and IT skills and have GCSE's 9 to 4 (formerly A*-C) in Maths and English or equivalent. However, you must also meet the requirements to be eligible for an apprenticeship.

In return we offer a variety of excellent benefits, together with support and supervision of which full details can be found on the apprenticeship information page .

Please refer to the job description and person specification for full details of this exciting opportunity.
