About the Role
Here at Wivenhoe Medical Centre we are looking for a proactive receptionist and clinical coder. You will be the first point of contact for patients in a healthcare setting, responsible for delivering excellent customer service while managing administrative and clerical duties to support clinical staff. As a clinical coder, you will be responsible for translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and treatments into standardised codes used for healthcare records. You will have the support of a friendly professional team and be encouraged to learn and grow.
Key responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a professional and friendly manner
- Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments
- Handle incoming phone calls, emails, and enquiries
- Register new patients and update patient records accurately
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information (GDPR compliance)
- Process prescriptions, referrals, and correspondence
- Handle billing, payments, and insurance documentation (if applicable)
- Liaise with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff
- Maintain a clean and organised reception area
- Review patient medical records, discharge summaries, and clinical notes
- Assign accurate codes using classification systems
- Ensure coding complies with national standards and guidelines
- Work closely with clinicians to clarify medical information
- Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
- Stay updated with coding standards and healthcare regulations

About the Candidate
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
