I'm delighted to be recruiting for my Huddersfield based Client for a skilled and motivated Maintenance Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, hands-on engineer with strong mechanical maintenance skills to work within a busy manufacturing/production environment. The ideal candidate will be apprentice trained and possess strong all-round engineering skills including fitting, turning, milling, and welding, with a minimum of five years' experience in a maintenance engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Maintenance Manager
- Carry out both planned preventative and reactive maintenance activities
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to prioritise maintenance resources effectively
- Assist with major breakdowns and minimise plant downtime
- Provide daily shift reports
- Maintain cleanliness of plant machinery and surrounding work areas
- Perform testing and inspection of mechanical systems in accordance with industry standards
- Implement mechanical maintenance and corrective works in line with maintenance instructions and site procedures
- Undertake defect surveys on plant and systems and provide reports to engineering management
- Support other departments within the business when required
- Carry out additional reasonable duties as requested by management
Skills & Experience Required
- Apprentice trained with strong mechanical engineering background
- Experience within a manufacturing or production environment
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Safe and proactive approach to all work activities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- ARC/MMA welding experience
- Good understanding of pumps and ancillary equipment
- Flexible approach to working hours and responsibilities
Desirable Experience
- Experience or knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous:
- Overhead traversing gantry cranes
- Compressors
- Refrigeration plant
- Low pressure air blowers
- Gas-fired combustion equipment
- Forklift trucks (diesel & electric)
- Pumps, valves and associated systems
- Electro-chemical process plant
- Electrical maintenance knowledge
- 18th Edition qualification (preferred but not essential)
Although the role is mechanically biased, suitably experienced electricians will also be considered.

- Hands-on approach to maintenance and repair work

- Flexible and reliable due to the 24-hour nature of plant operations
Working Hours
- Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Friday: 8:00am – 3:30pm
- Saturday work as required
- Call-outs when needed
Salary
£13.50 – £16.50 per hour, depending on experience.
