We are delighted to be working with a well-established specialist transport and logistics company seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor / Planner to join its team at its Barnsley depot. The business operates a nationwide fleet and specialises in the delivery of high-value and specialist equipment. The role will be offered on a temporary to permanent basis.

The Role

You will act as a key point of contact within the operations office, responsible for vehicle route planning, collections, trunking operations, and the day-to-day management of operational issues.

  • Planning delivery and collection routes and allocating driving teams to maximise efficiency, service levels, and revenue.
  • Managing loads through the Transport Management System (TMS).
  • Liaising with customer service teams regarding delivery bookings, customer enquiries, delays, and operational issues.
  • Supporting warehouse operations to ensure accurate vehicle loading and capacity management.
  • Ensuring vehicles depart on schedule each day, prioritising customer requirements and resolving any staffing or vehicle-related issues.
  • Managing driver timesheets, holiday requests, and daily communications.
  • Promoting and supporting Health & Safety and compliance standards across the site.
  • Providing support to operational management teams as required.

About You

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Previous supervisory experience with strong communication and team management skills.
  • A positive and proactive approach to work.
  • The ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet operational deadlines.
  • Good geographical knowledge and an understanding of tachograph regulations and Operator Licence requirements.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • A Counterbalance FLT licence (desirable but not essential).

Hours of Work

Initially during the training period the hours of work will be Monday to Friday 09:30 – 18:00. After this you will commence on the rotating pattern of Monday to Friday; 05:00–13:45, 11:00–19:45.

Salary

An annual salary of between £33,000 - £35,000 will be offered based upon experience. The role will be offered on a temporary to permanent basis.
