Are you a hands-on engineer who loves solving problems? Do you enjoy fault-finding, repairing machinery, welding, fabrication and keeping production moving? We're looking for an experienced onsite multiskilled maintenance engineer to join a long-established manufacturing business in Huddersfield. This is an ideal opportunity for a practical, mechanically minded engineer who enjoys variety and takes pride in keeping industrial equipment running reliably.
This isn't your typical automated factory maintenance role. You'll be working with a fascinating range of traditional, robust industrial machinery that has been well maintained and looked after over many years. If you enjoy mechanical engineering, preventative maintenance and getting stuck into challenging repairs, this could be exactly the role you've been looking for.
Your Role
Working alongside an experienced maintenance team and reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you'll take responsibility for keeping the site's plant, machinery and equipment operating safely and efficiently. You'll be involved in both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown work, with plenty of opportunity to use your practical engineering skills. Your day-to-day work will include:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across the site.
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical breakdowns.
- Responding quickly to equipment faults to minimise production downtime.
- Mechanical fitting, repair and maintenance.
- Welding and fabrication work.
- Maintaining pumps, motors, valves, conveyors and ancillary equipment.
- Inspecting machinery and reporting defects or potential issues.
- Working closely with production teams to identify and resolve problems.
- Supporting site improvement and engineering projects.
- Maintaining high standards of safety and housekeeping across workshops and plant areas.
The Skills We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys hands-on engineering and isn't afraid to get stuck into a difficult mechanical problem. You'll ideally have:
- Apprentice-trained or time-served engineering background.
- Strong mechanical maintenance experience.
- Previous experience within manufacturing, production, process or heavy industrial environments.
- Excellent mechanical fault-finding skills.
- Experience with fitting, turning and milling.
- Strong ARC/MMA welding and fabrication skills.
- Good knowledge of pumps and associated mechanical equipment.
- A proactive approach to maintenance and problem-solving.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small engineering team.
Additional Skills That Would Be a Bonus
Experience with any of the following would be highly beneficial:
- Overhead gantry cranes.
- Industrial compressors.
- Refrigeration plant.
- Low-pressure air blowers.
- Gas-fired combustion equipment.
- Forklift trucks.
- Pumps, valves and process systems.
- Electro-chemical plant.
- Electrical maintenance.
- 18th Edition qualification.
Experienced electricians with strong industrial maintenance experience will also be considered.
Why Join This Business?
This is a great opportunity for an engineer who wants to use their full range of practical skills rather than becoming pigeonholed into one area. You'll benefit from:
- Genuinely hands-on engineering work.
- A wide variety of traditional industrial machinery.
- A strong preventative maintenance culture.
- Well-maintained equipment and an experienced engineering team.
- Plenty of technical variety and problem-solving.
- A stable, long-established manufacturing business.
- The opportunity to expand your mechanical and electrical skill set.
- Early finish every Friday!
