Our Trainee Health Protection Technical Officer role offers an excellent introduction to a rewarding profession. You will gain valuable skills and knowledge across a wide and diverse range of regulatory and investigative work. The team delivers an interesting and varied workload, including food hygiene inspections, accident investigations, water sampling, and infectious disease investigations.

No prior Environmental Health experience is required. However, applicants must demonstrate the commitment, enthusiasm, and motivation to complete the Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer apprenticeship. You will receive comprehensive on-the-job training, supported by our knowledgeable and experienced team.

Salary: Year 1 will be paid at 70% of the bottom of the salary grade. Year 2 will be paid at 85% of the bottom of the salary grade, subject to the successful completion of the Regulatory Compliance Officer apprenticeship.

What will you be doing?

You will undertake the Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship, developing the skills and knowledge required to carry out the full range of duties associated with the Health Protection Technical Officer role. Under the supervision and guidance of experienced officers, you will gather and analyse intelligence, respond to complaints and enquiries, and support regulatory activity. You will contribute to project work, carry out inspections of businesses, investigate instances of non-compliance, and provide advice, guidance, and support to local businesses.

About you

No prior Environmental Health experience is required. However, applicants must demonstrate the commitment and motivation to complete the formal qualification alongside gaining practical experience and knowledge, supported by our Officers. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about public safety and the roles within Health Protection, Regulatory Services. The successful candidate will have a positive attitude, remain calm and confident under pressure, and possess strong communication skills. Applicants must hold GCSEs in English and Mathematics at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or an equivalent qualification.
