Detective route – No, this is not a Detective route. Once you have accepted an offer to begin on this route, you are unable to switch to the detective route. However, after successfully completing your initial training and becoming a fully qualified, substantive police officer, you will have the opportunity to apply for the internal detective academy pathway. This will allow you to pursue a career as a detective after gaining the necessary experience and fulfilling your initial obligations as a police officer.

Training – In-house training delivered within WMP classrooms and via on-the job practical learning.

About the Pre-Join entry route for graduates of the Professional Policing Degree

This is the right route for you if you have achieved, or are in your final year, of the Degree in Professional Policing that has been licensed and validated by the College of Policing. A full list of the universities offering this programme can be found here ; only students or graduates of this course are able to apply for this route.

Your formal training will take place alongside your practical work in one of our many policing teams across the West Midlands. After an initial training period, you’ll get your uniform, join a team, and begin two years of practical learning that will shape your policing career.

You will have already completed the theory of becoming a Police Officer through your degree, now is the chance to put it all into practice. Although some classroom training will be mandatory, we want to ensure you learn how to become a great Officer with ‘on the job’ training.

Ensuring our Police Officers have plenty of development opportunities is high on our agenda; once you have successfully completed the two year probationary period you will be able to consider further opportunities including promotion and specialisms within the Force. Vetting – Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Description – Two-year entry programme that doesn’t require you to study for a degree within your probation, aimed at individuals who have graduated with a Degree in Professional Policing or are in their final year of completing. The Pre-join training includes an element of classroom-based learning at the initial stages of your training, however mainly focuses on practical on-the-job learning enabling you to put the theory you have already learnt within your degree to practice., * Have achieved a Degree in Professional Policing that has been licensed and validated by the College of Policing

  • OR be in the final year of study for your Professional Policing Degree, Candidates are required to be UK resident for the last three years. You must be a British, Irish or EEA National, alternatively you must have no restrictions on your right to live and work in the UK.

You will start on £29,907, per annum and this will increase with yearly increments meaning you can earn up to £48,231 within 7 years of starting your training!
