The Traffic Investigation Unit is part of the Criminal Justice Services department and is responsible for:
- Road Traffic Collision Administration and Investigation
- Disclosure & Postal Requisitions
The unit is based at West Midlands Police Headquarters, Lloyd House, Birmingham, and aims to maintain high-quality services for the public and stakeholders.
The role supports the RTC team, handling investigation and case management of various road traffic collisions, allegations of driving standards, and police accidents. Responsibilities also include inputting postal requisitions and managing third-party materials such as police reports.
Specific Role Responsibilities
- Providing administrative support for efficient operation, including contact with the public and third parties via phone and email.
- Managing collision reports through various reporting forms and systems.
- Administering education courses, fixed penalties, or postal charges as appropriate.
- Liaising with local Court Management Units regarding ongoing cases.
- Managing archiving and filing in line with guidelines.
- Handling correspondence from solicitors and insurance companies, ensuring GDPR compliance.
- Providing information and guidance to internal and external customers.
- Monitoring team email accounts.
- Inputting postal requisitions for legal procedures.
- Coordinating with partners like insurance companies, solicitors, courts, and the public.
- Updating involved parties on case progress and attending court as needed.
- Creating and sending relevant correspondence.
- Remaining flexible to meet unit needs and participating in meetings for performance improvement.
- Performing other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Delivery
Essential Skills:
- Data entry experience with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Administrative experience with multi-tasking ability.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate professionally.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience within the Criminal Justice Unit.
- Experience in the road traffic environment.
Applicants must uphold high standards of behaviour and accountability, respecting privacy and professional conduct.
Hours: 36.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday, times to be agreed.
Location: Lloyd House, Birmingham.
Vetting: Successful candidates will undergo recruitment vetting and counter-terrorism clearance, including background and financial checks.
Medical: Medical checks, possibly including drugs and fitness tests, are required.
