Two-year entry programme that doesn't require you to study for a degree within your probation. The PCEP training focuses on practical on-the-job learning, with an element of classroom-based learning at the initial stages of your training. You can expect to spend the majority of your training and probation on the frontline with experienced officers supporting you in becoming a fully competent police officer.
This is not a Detective route. Once you have accepted an offer to begin on this route, you are unable to switch to the detective route. However, after successfully completing your initial training and becoming a fully qualified, substantive police officer, you will have the opportunity to apply for the internal detective academy pathway. This will allow you to pursue a career as a detective after gaining the necessary experience and fulfilling your initial obligations as a police officer.

Our Police Constable Entry Programme is our new and improved two-year work-based scheme aimed at people who wish to become a Police Constable through a more vocational route with no studying towards a degree. You will undertake a period of initial learning across 22 weeks at our Tally Ho! Training Centre, followed by operational coaching and training in the wider force. The training includes a blended approach of both classroom-based and practical on-the-job learning whilst being supported by experienced colleagues. Ensuring our Police Officers have plenty of development opportunities is high on our agenda; once you have successfully completed the two-year probationary period you will be able to consider further opportunities including promotion and specialisms within the Force. You could choose to work within Firearms, with our Dogs, with Complex Investigations, our Drone department or on Roads Policing; the possibilities are limitless!
You will start on £29,907 per annum and this will increase with yearly increments meaning you can earn up to £48,231 within 7 years of starting your training! You will receive an excellent pension, a generous annual leave allocation, free access to support services, you will qualify for a Blue Light Discount card and be able to access sport and social club facilities.
Qualifications: Have a Level 2 English qualification (Grade C/4 or above) AND Have a Level 3 qualification OR 2 A levels or an academic or vocational qualification gained outside England and Wales which is considered by the UK National Recognition Information Centre to be equivalent to a level 3 qualification. 12 months current relevant policing experience will be accepted in place of the Level 3 qualification. This includes Special Constables with IPS, Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's), PSI's, PSIO's, Detention/Escort Officer (DEO's) or within Force Contact. Alternatively, 4+ years current military service is accepted in place of the Level 3 qualification.
Medical/Fitness: When applying for the role candidates must be able/ready to run the bleep test to a level of 5.4. Residency and Nationality: Candidates are required to be UK resident for the last three years. You must be a British, Irish or EEA National, alternatively you must have no restrictions on your right to live and work in the UK.
