An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Police Led Prosecution team based in Lloyd House.

Purpose of the Role:

  • To have up-to-date knowledge of force policies and legislation related to specified proceedings.
  • To interpret and apply Criminal and Traffic Law to assess the quality of files.
  • To liaise with victims, witnesses, defendants/defence advocates, and external agencies.
  • To provide assistance during absences in a PLP court as a court co-ordinator.
  • To ensure the efficiency and smooth running of cases.
  • To obtain availability for officers and victims/witnesses.
  • To allocate \’Not Guilty Anticipated Plea\’ file-build requests.
  • To update force systems with SJP and PLP case disposal information.
  • To input relevant data into Connect and PLP Excel spreadsheets.
  • To attend and contribute to meetings, representing the Police Prosecution Manager when necessary, focusing on performance improvement and effective communication of decisions.
  • The Police Led Assistant reports directly to the Police Led Prosecutor.
  • Any other tasks appropriate to the grade.

Specific Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage, review, and progress specified and de-specified cases, ensuring all checks are completed and information supports WMP prosecution.
  • Assist Police Prosecutors with legal arguments and trial preparations, including requesting further enquiries.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of force policies and legislation related to proceedings.
  • Interpret and apply Criminal and Traffic Law to assess file quality and ensure proper disclosure, following relevant guidelines.
  • Assist as a court co-ordinator during absences in a PLP court.
  • Liaise with victims, witnesses, defendants/defence advocates, and external agencies.
  • Obtain availability for officers and witnesses/victims.
  • Maintain systems and procedures in accordance with force policies and Data Protection Act, processing dead files under MOPI guidelines.
  • Record performance indicators and statistical data, preparing management information.
  • Coordinate with internal and external agencies to ensure justice.
  • Handle internal and external correspondence efficiently.
  • Participate actively in meetings.
  • Assign officers to \’Not Guilty Anticipated Plea\’ file-build requests.
  • Update case disposal information in force systems.
  • Input data into CONNECT and PLP Excel spreadsheets.
  • Monitor the PLP email account.
  • Perform any other duties consistent with the role and grade.

Knowledge, Skills, and Delivery:

  • Knowledge of interpreting and applying Criminal and Traffic Law, assessing evidence files, and making sound disposal decisions.
  • Understanding of current Road Traffic Legislation, Attorney General\’s Guidance on Disclosure, and the Criminal Procedure and Investigation Act 1996.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for guidance and influence.
  • Proven ability to plan and progress work within guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Skill in compiling statistics and management information related to proceedings.
  • Proficiency in IT and software packages.

Additional Information:

Prospective officers and staff are held to high standards of behaviour and accountability to ensure professionalism and uphold police powers.

Hours: 36.5 hours per week, flexible according to operational needs.

Location: Lloyd House, Birmingham.

Vetting: Successful applicants must pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance, including background and financial checks.

Medical: Medical checks required, possibly including drugs and fitness tests.
