Job Title: Mobile Cleaner/Porter

Facilities Management currently has a vacancy for a Mobile Cleaner/Porter within our Corporate Asset Management Department.

Mobile Cleaner/Porters are required to work across the police estate of West Midlands. This post will be primarily based at Kings Heath, with some travel to other sites including Moseley and Balsall Heath. Travel/mileage expenses incurred during working hours between different sites can be claimed.

The successful applicant will carry out general cleaning and porter duties within areas of operational police stations or partner buildings, including offices, washrooms, welfare areas, custody suites, and forensic areas.

Full training will be provided, aligned with British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) standards.

We have a part-time vacancy with the following hours:

07:00 am – 11:00 am, Monday to Thursday; 07:00 am – 12:00 pm Friday

Key Duties:

  1. Damp dusting furniture, fixtures, and furnishings; suction cleaning and wet mopping floors and stairwells; washing walls and vertical surfaces up to 3.53m (11ft) using high-level cleaning equipment.
  2. Cleaning kitchens and welfare areas, including refrigerators and cupboards.
  3. Maintaining cleaning equipment and reporting faults.
  4. Reporting maintenance defects noted in the building.
  5. Carrying out porter duties involving manual handling and external area cleaning as instructed.
  6. Undertaking training to safely perform all duties associated with the role.

Person Specification:

  1. Experience in a similar role, preferably across multiple sites.
  2. Excellent communication skills, able to understand written and verbal instructions.
  3. Basic IT skills, including email and e-learning platforms.
  4. Ability to perform manual handling tasks.
  5. Willingness to learn and develop skills, including safe use of cleaning equipment and machinery.
  6. Flexibility to commute within the police estate as needed.
  7. Ability to work independently and possess good interpersonal skills.
  8. Availability for some weekend and bank holiday work.

Additional Requirements:

Successful applicants will undergo Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance, including background and financial checks. Medical checks, possibly including a drugs test, may also be required.
