At Midland Metro Limited (MML), we are proud to operate and maintain the West Midlands Metro, providing a safe, reliable, and sustainable tram service across the region. We are now recruiting for an organised and proactive Engineering Support Manager to play a critical role in enabling safe, efficient and uninterrupted engineering operations across the Midland Metro network.

This role is responsible for ensuring engineering teams are fully supported through effective management of spares, tools, asset data, and support systems. You will be accountable for supply chain resilience, asset data integrity, and operational readiness, working closely with Production, Planning, and Engineering teams to ensure maintenance and fault response activities are never compromised.

As our Engineering Support Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Owning and managing all engineering stock across all disciplines, defining critical spares, setting minimum/maximum levels and preventing stock-outs
  • Forecasting spares and consumable demand by analysing fault trends, PPM plans and production requirements, proactively managing supply risks
  • Overseeing storage systems, kitting areas and breakdown/repair kits to ensure efficient access and rapid response capability
  • Managing all engineering tools, specialist and emergency equipment, ensuring availability, compliance, calibration and operational readiness
  • Maintaining ownership of asset data quality within the AMIS system, leading audits, continuous improvement and effective fault-to-asset linkage
  • Supporting procurement activities including specification writing, tendering and framework use, in line with governance requirements
  • Managing supplier, OEM and contractor relationships, monitoring performance and driving delivery and quality improvements
  • Ensuring full compliance with COSHH, health and safety legislation and the MML Safety Management System, supporting incident investigations where required
  • Line managing Stores and AMIS personnel (as applicable), providing functional leadership across engineering support activities
  • Providing performance reporting to senior management and lead continuous improvement initiatives across stores and supply chain operations
  • Managing stock levels, procurement priorities and supplier selection within approved budgets, escalating risks and contributing to budget and stock strategy planning

In order to be successful in this role you must have / be:

  • Engineering support, stores, procurement or supply chain management experience in an engineering or infrastructure environment
  • Strong experience in stock control and inventory management
  • Experience supporting engineering and maintenance operations
  • Experience managing suppliers and procurement processes
  • Working knowledge of asset management systems (CMMS), ideally Agility
  • Supply Chain Management qualification (Level 5 or above) – Essential
  • IOSH or NEBOSH – Desirable
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Process-driven with high attention to detail
  • Proactive, solution-focused and accountable
  • Able to manage competing priorities in a dynamic operational environment
  • Full UK driving licence – Essential
