We are now recruiting for an experienced and forward‐thinking Electrical & Mechanical Team Leader to take a senior technical role in the safe operation and maintenance of our tramway's critical electrical infrastructure. This is a high‐impact leadership position with real autonomy; you will shape the direction of the Electrical & Mechanical function, influence engineering decisions, and drive improvements that directly enhance the reliability and safety of the network. You will lead the team responsible for our DC traction power substations, LV distribution systems, and wider electrical assets, setting the technical focus and defining standards of best practice.
Responsibilities
- Maintenance and repair of traction power substations and LV systems
- Team leadership, competence development, and safety assurance
- Switching programmes, isolations, permits, and technical investigations
- Performance reporting and continuous improvement
- Support to new system installations and commissioning
- Participation in the engineering on‐call rota
Qualifications
- Strong electrical engineering background (switchgear, HV/LV distribution, plant control systems, industrial power, utilities, defence, or similar).
- Experience leading technical teams in a safety‐critical environment.
- High attention to detail and excellent understanding of electrical safety principles.
- Ability to review technical documentation, RAMS, schematics, and protection arrangements.
- Level 3 Electrical Engineering qualification.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Electrical safe systems of work competence.
- Ability to achieve Authorised Person (Complex) status within six months (fully funded).
Additional Desired Skills
- HNC/HND or degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- PLC/Control systems experience
- AP/SAP trained (HV/LV)
- IOSH/NEBOSH
- Rail, traction power, or utility experience
