Help shape the future of regeneration across the West Midlands. The West Midlands Combined Authority is looking for an experienced development professional to play a pivotal role in assessing, shaping and presenting some of the region's most significant regeneration projects. This is far more than a technical appraisal role. You'll work with local authorities, developers, consultants and senior public sector leaders to turn ambitious regeneration ideas into deliverable investment opportunities, helping determine which schemes receive public funding and move forward into delivery. From town centre regeneration and mixed-use developments to large-scale housing schemes, your work will directly influence the future of communities across the region.

The Opportunity

Each month you'll present projects to the Interim Steering Group, bringing together Chief Executives, senior local authority leaders and key decision makers from across the West Midlands. You'll act as the bridge between local authorities, the Combined Authority and funding partners, providing commercially robust advice that helps shape investment decisions. This is a role for someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with relationship building, strategic thinking and commercial judgement. You'll have significant autonomy, the opportunity to make the role your own, and the chance to influence projects from their earliest stages through to funding approval.

What you'll be doing

  • Assess complex regeneration and development schemes before they enter the funding pipeline.
  • Carry out and oversee development appraisals, viability assessments and commercial analysis.
  • Advise local authorities on how schemes can be strengthened to improve deliverability.
  • Commission specialist consultants where additional technical expertise is required.
  • Build strong relationships with local authorities, developers, investors and public sector partners across the region.
  • Present recommendations to senior decision makers within the Interim Steering Group.
  • Help ensure public investment is directed towards projects that deliver the greatest impact for communities across the West Midlands.

About you

We're interested in speaking to commercially minded development professionals who understand what makes regeneration projects viable. You might currently be working as a:

  • Development Surveyor
  • Planning & Development Surveyor
  • Development Manager
  • Regeneration Surveyor
  • Development Consultant
  • Investment Surveyor
  • Senior Development Surveyor

Whether your experience has been gained within consultancy, the private sector, a developer, Homes England or the public sector, you'll bring the commercial credibility to advise on complex development projects. You'll ideally have experience of:

  • Development appraisals and viability analysis.
  • Residential and mixed-use regeneration schemes.
  • Planning and development processes.
  • Capital funding and investment.
  • Presenting complex technical information to senior stakeholders.
  • Working with multiple partners to move projects forward.

Chartered status (MRICS) or equivalent professional experience is highly desirable.

Why join?

This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to help shape how regeneration projects progress across one of the UK's most ambitious combined authorities. In return you'll benefit from:

  • A highly varied role where no two projects are the same.
  • The opportunity to influence high-profile regeneration schemes across the West Midlands.
  • Exposure to senior leaders from local government and the development sector.
  • Significant autonomy and the chance to shape a brand-new role.
  • Hybrid working.
  • Excellent long-term prospects beyond the initial 12-month fixed-term contract for the right individual.
