Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) £2.2 billion capital programme encompasses major road, rail, and metro infrastructure projects, all of which have significant impacts on utilities. Our Utilities team have a brand-new role for a Site Supervisor to oversee daily operations on TfWM-delivered projects and utility diversion sites, ensuring timely, budget-compliant, and high-quality project completion.
Delivering ambitious projects across the West Midlands, including the Midlands Metro, Birmingham Eastside Extension, Black Country Metro, and the Sprint Bus Priority Scheme, you will be responsible for managing contractors, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations and verifying that projects are technically correct and adhere to site regulations. This is a great opportunity for someone seeking a dynamic role that offers hands-on site experience while contributing to the successful delivery of large-scale projects.
We're looking for a strong leader who excels in stakeholder collaboration and takes a hands-on approach to problem-solving. Please note that, due to the nature of the role, you will be required to work at multiple sites across the West Midlands five days a week. A valid UK driver's license and access to your own vehicle are essential for this role.
What you will be doing:
- Support the CDM Manager in oversight and delivery of major utility works associated with the construction of major road, rail and metro projects.
- Work collaboratively to support the delivery of the utilities elements of major infrastructure projects.
- Apply relevant standards, Codes of Practice and legislation in the management, mitigation and delivery of major works to utilities.
- Manage all aspects of the construction site, ensuring work is carried out according to plan.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and building legislation.
- Manage the delivery of materials and equipment, and ensure workers are available where needed.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, architects, and engineers to ensure the project is built to specification and on schedule.
- Track expenses and minimise costs where possible.
- Identify potential risks on site and implement mitigation strategies to minimise disruption.
What's essential:
- SMSTS qualification or equivalent.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or similar role on large scale construction projects.
- Experience with major transport infrastructure projects, such as highways, railways, etc.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
- Experience of collaborating with key stakeholders both internally and externally to manage major infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of Procurement of contestable utilities works, including tender development, NEC contract management and early contractor involvement.
- Experience in enforcing health and safety regulations on site.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and conflict resolution abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple activities simultaneously.
Location: Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to be on various sites across the West Midlands, 5 days a week.
