Delivery Manager - Sustainable Transport in Birmingham

If you have a track record in managing the development and delivery of major complex highway schemes, then this may be the perfect role for you. We are looking for a Delivery Manager to be responsible for managing design, mobilisation and construction of major highway schemes in the region, covering highways, bus, interchange, and active travel. This is a critical role for the organisation as we go through an exciting period of change, establishing a multi-modal Delivery Directorate and strive to be a best-in-class delivery authority.

You will have a technical background in the delivery of highway or civil engineering projects, including the oversight of design activities, supporting contracts and commercial strategy and working across the construction supply chain to ensure delivery certainty. This role will be integral to supporting Transport for West Midlands delivery of multiple sustainable transport projects across the region. Sustainable Transport investment in highways forms a major part of Transport for West Midlands £2.2Bn capital programme and you will support an estimated annual spend of c.£40 million.

We need someone who isn't afraid of a challenge and wants to work within an agile and progressive environment at the vanguard of best practice, in successfully delivering major highway projects on time and to budget.

What you will be doing:

• Manage and oversee detailed development and construction activities of major road and sustainable transport infrastructure projects.
• Provide high quality technical input and expertise to develop, shape and deliver multi-disciplinary technical solutions.
• Work collaboratively with WMCA colleagues, relevant local authorities, funding bodies and other stakeholders.
• Work with NEC contracts to manage contractor performance and requests.
• Assist in the preparation of reports for senior management, elected members, West Midlands Combined Authority committees, Management and Programme Boards and Local Cabinet.
• Review risk process and put in place measures which ensure that risks and opportunities are properly identified, managed and communicated.
• Manage budgets and ensure financial administration, monitoring and reporting is of the highest standard.
• Ensure that appropriate legal agreements are in place to enable the development and delivery of the scheme.

About you:

• Experience of developing and delivering technically complex engineering projects.
• Experience of commissioning technical services through the procurement and management of the supply chain.
• Experience of working within a NEC environment, including contract management and contractor engagement.
• Experience of working with Local Enterprise Partnerships, Department for Transport, Local Highways and Planning Authorities, Emergency Services, Highways England and other stakeholder bodies.
• Proven technical knowledge of design standards and best practice in detailed development and delivery of highway projects.
• Excellent stakeholder management and partnership working skills.
• Knowledge of environmental assessment requirements and procedures.
• An appropriate degree level qualification or appropriate alternative, e.g. Civil Engineering, Building.

Location: The location for this role is Summer Lane with at least 2 days a week spent in the office.
