An exciting opportunity has become available for Clinical Team Mentors to join our well established team at Erdington HUB.

Applicants must be HCPC Registered Paramedics with a minimum of 12 months post qualification experience & must have completed their NQP consolidation & portfolio sign off (if applicable) – evidence of this will be required along with a WMAS / University based named mentor experience / qualification.

The Clinical Team Mentoris primarily responsible for ensuring anexcellent patient experience and clinical outcome is afforded to patients withinemergency operations. The post-holderwill develop the concept of Clinical Mentorship within their HUB to ensure thatall Operational Staff are supported through means of observation and evaluationand are astute to their clinical responsibility and therefore, patient outcome.Through means of application and imparting knowledge, keep operational staffabreast of changes to Clinical, Key Performance Indicators and Pathways.

Job responsibilities

Maintain Professional Registration as a Paramedicand undertake continual professional development, to maintain skill levels andknowledge. Carry out procedures in accordance with JRCALC, Trust and NationalGuidance that is within the organisations permitted scope of practice

To recognise and report to the appropriateauthorities any concerns regarding Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adultsthrough a single point of access.

Adherence to the drug and medication legislationsuch as: Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 – 2001regulations, prescriptions Only Medication Act 1968,1997 Amendments Act 1992.

Adherence to the law governing the use anddocumentation of controlled drugs used and carried within the Trust.

Conduct dynamic risk assessments when responding toincidents for protection of yourself, your crewmate and members of the publicand to ensure scene safety, as physical or verbal abuse may be present onoccasions.

When required, and until relieved by an appropriateofficer, liaise with members of the other Emergency Services undertakes anincident management role as expected within the JESIP principles.

Knowledge of how to deal with situations involvingmultiple casualties including road traffic collisions and fires involvingtrapped or injured persons and be able to discuss the management of these caseswith students and staff members.

Exercise clinical judgement in implementingemergency care, treatment plans and where appropriate required utilisingAlternative Care Pathways.

When indicated exercise clinical judgment for theadministration of a range of drugs relevant to the patients needs andappropriate to the skill level of a WMAS Registered Paramedic. This willinclude the use of controlled drugs.

Communicate effectively with clinicians to be ableto challenge behaviour and address poor practice, escalating concerns to amanager when required

Accurately and factually complete all WMASdocumentation including confidential details as required by the organisation.On occasions individuals may be expected to give evidence to HM Coroner or a court.

Plan and undertake clinical supervision on a rangeof staff within the HUB providing mentorship and supervision on activities andsubjects set out by the trust each year.

Support clinicians maintain their clinicalcompetency through mentorship, providing accurate and structured feedback,escalating concerns to a manager. Managers may decide to implement an actionplan to improve an individuals competency within the workplace under therelevant policies and procedures, which mentors can use to report on andmeasure progress against.

Responsibility to coach and mentor new and existingclinical staff when they are adopting new or refreshing existing clinicalpractices or new ways of working.

Support where required, students in the completionof their portfolios or workbooks towards the relevant qualifications, providingassessments and documenting progress against the relevant learning outcomes orassessment areas.

Complete the necessary report following completionof a clinical supervision shift with a clinician.

Facilitate the review of cases as requested by localmanagement teams or the trusts Patient Safety department, to identify areas forimprovement or learning, or positive areas of achievement or practice. Thiswill be reported on the relevant trust template back to the organisation. Thiswill be inline with the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.

Act as a point of contact for staff with clinicalqueries or advice and know when and where to seek advice from if furtherinformation is required.

Maintain a smart appearance at all times, inconjunction with the organisations uniform policy and any other relevantpolicy.

Adherence to the Code of Conduct, OperationalInstructions, Quality Procedures, Data Protection, Caldicott procedures and anyother verbal or written instructions promulgated by the organisation currentlyor in the future.

Clinical Team Mentors should behave as expectedwithin the organisations Code of Conduct and other policies, ensuring that theymaintain a professional relationship with colleagues and patients. Thisincludes adherence to the trusts Sexual Safety charter.

To participate in patient trials or audits whererequested by the organisation.

Maintain a professional portfolio with evidence ofongoing clinical and reflective practice. Undertake additional training todevelop and maintain your skills in order to support and advise staff.
