An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Family Based Care Service as a Supervising Social Worker. Within this role you will work as part of a continuum of provision to develop and sustain a flexible range of family-based care options which meets the needs of children, young people and their families. You will work as part of our Family Based Care Service to assess, train, recruit and support foster and adoptive carers and contribute to the development of the service and Post-Adoption supports. The team work closely with colleagues in local teams and with a variety of internal and external agencies and disciplines.

You will also develop and sustain a range of adult family-based care options which meets the needs of young people who may have been Looked After by the Local Authority. This will involve the recruitment, assessment and supervision/support of foster carers. You may also be responsible for assessing kinship carers, ensuring that all legislative requirements are met and the relevant supports are implemented and maintained.

This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from the date of commencement of this post to become registered with the SSSC. SSSC stipulate you must submit your application within three months of your start date. If you are already registered with SSSC you will be required to add West Lothian Council to your account.

This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
