Job Advert 36 hours per week, 52.14weeks per year, Permanent Applications for this post will only be accepted from current employees of West Lothian Council (this includes casual and agency staff who are currently undertaking work for us) Planning Services are seeking to employ a Planning Officer 2 in Development Management to be based at Civic Centre, Livingston with hybrid working arrangements.
The purpose of the role is process planning applications, and related statutory applications, in fulfilling the council’s role as planning authority for the area.
As a Grade 2 planner, the postholder will be expected to carry a caseload including major planning applications and will be expected to take a leading role in the development of the team, including the provision of guidance and mentoring to grade 1 planner’s and assistant planning officers.
Essential requirements for the post are: Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI/FRTPI) or similar equivalent professional organisation relating to planning.
A demonstrable ability to deal with a range of planning applications including applications for residential, commercial, retail and industrial uses.
A demonstrable knowledge and understanding of development management procedures, law and practice.
A knowledge of development planning procedures, law and practice including the Development Plan Process.
An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of local planning authorities.
Good written and oral communication skills with an ability to work to tight deadlines.
Good administrative, organisational and interpersonal skills for liaison with other parties.
The ability to work within a team and as an individual with minimum supervision.
A current valid full driving licence for a manual vehicle to undertake site visits and meetings
