36 hours, 52.14 weeks per year, Fixed Term until 2 March 2027. This post is a fixed term available for 1 year. This is being recruited to on a full time, 5 day a week basis. We have a rare opportunity for a permanent role within the Housing Need Allocations Team.

The post holder will be part of a small, busy team of 7 officers processing applications for housing for West Lothian Council and a percentage of properties belonging to registered social landlords. Assistants are responsible for the implementation of all allocations procedures when assessing applications and supporting evidence, and ensure compliance with current legislation, regulation and good practice.

The assistants are responsible for the delivery of a high-quality customer focused housing service, often as the first point of contact for applicants contacting the service. Post holders support and advise applicants to ensure that they provide all relevant information to allow the team to manage the case to deliver the best outcome for their needs, which delivers the council’s commitments in achieving sustainable communities.

Post holders will have the ability to work effectively under their own initiative in a high demand environment within a small team. They should be competent and confident in the decision-making process in relation to processing large volumes of information, and in resolving problems to progress casework and achieve good outcomes for applicants, and to improve our working practices.

Who we are looking for:

  • Skilled and highly motivated individuals who have a deep understanding and first-hand experience of delivering excellent customer service.
  • Strong attention to detail in managing data processing.
  • Experience in working in a Housing or Housing Need environment where you can use your own initiative, plan and organise your workload, and enjoy achieving performance targets while providing excellent customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills to help sustain strong partnership working with key partners, and deliver information to applicants in a calm, consistent and empathetic manner.

These are permanent posts and will play a key role within our Allocations Team, who work in a high demand, fast-paced environment and who deliver excellent performance and a customer-focused service to applicants for housing. The successful candidate will have access to West Lothian Council’s Pool Car Scheme in order to undertake approved business travel. Previous applicants need not apply.
