An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Head Teacher to join the team at Boghall Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare (ELC). Boghall Primary School's vision is 'Dream, Believe, Achieve', which reflects the school's commitment to providing motivating and aspirational learning experiences of the highest quality for every child. The school's core values of Trust, Respect, Nurture, Ambition and Inclusion lie at the heart of its work and play a central role in shaping its inclusive ethos.

Boghall Primary School and ELC is a non-denominational school serving the Boghall area of Bathgate and is part of the Bathgate Cluster. The school roll for session 2025–26 is currently 246 pupils, organised across 11 classes, with 39 children within the ELC. In addition to the Class Teachers and two part-time Support for Learning Teachers, the management structure consists of a Head Teacher, 1 Depute Head Teacher and 1 Principal Teacher. The school is supported by a team of Pupil Support Workers who work across the school. ELC staffing will include 1 Early Years Officer, 5 Early Years Practitioners and 2 PSWs.

The school has a strong community ethos and benefits from a supportive and proactive Parent Council. The Parent Council works in close partnership with the school and is committed to improving the work and life of the school as well as organising fundraising events throughout the school year.

  • People who have achieved the Standard for Headship.
  • People appointed as permanent Head Teachers of a public school, a grant-aided school or an independent school on or before 1 August 2020.
  • A person who has not yet achieved the Standard for Headship may be appointed as a head teacher, provided the appointment does not exceed 30 months.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
