An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 7 Specialist CBTPractitioner to work in the Tri-borough CAMHS Eating Disorders team, based atEaling CAMHS 1 Armstrong Way, Southall UB2 4SA. The role is based within ourEating Disorder Team up to 1.0 WTE.
Main duties of the job
Psychology is very well established within our CAMHS service and has a large group of staff who deliver innovative and highly-regarded clinical services in many different contexts. There is a strong and supportive network across the three trust boroughs of Hounslow, Ealing and Hammersmith & Fulham, and the CAMHS cross borough services which include CORA, the Alliance Team (which provides crisis cover and intensive community support), the DBT service, the Forensic CAMHS service and the under 5’s service. We hold regular psychology meetings and there are excellent CPD opportunities with regular whole-service trainings in therapeutic approaches, as well as support for specialist supervision. We have strong links with the North London Clinical Psychology training courses and offer placements to trainees.
Our CAMHS service is innovative, creative, and values multi-disciplinary working, and our colleagues tell us that one of the things they value most is working as part of their team. Our teams are supported to undertake service development and quality improvement projects, as well as providing excellent development opportunities and support structures. Disciplines working within CAMHS include Psychology (including a vast CBT workforce of CWPs, EMHPs, CYP-PTs, and supervisors), Nursing, Allied Health Professionals (including Occupational Therapy), Systemic Family Therapy, Child Psychotherapy (including Art and Music Therapy), Social Work and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Qualifications
- Post-graduate training in CBT (e.g. PGDip in CYP-IAPT CBT or substantial CBT training as part of PsychD Clinical or Counselling Psychology Doctorate)
- Professional knowledge acquired through a degree-level qualification in one of the following:
- Nursing (RMN, RGN or RSCN) with additional therapeutic qualifications
- Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology or equivalent if trained overseas, plus registration as a clinical or counselling psychologist with the HCPC
- Master’s Degree in Systemic and Family Psychotherapy
- Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy (eligible for full membership of the Association of Child Psychotherapists)
- Social Worker with additional therapeutic qualifications
- CBT therapist accredited with the BABCP, to include training in working with children, adolescents and families
- Current professional registration as applicable: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC), Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) or The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) , BABCP
- Further short courses/CPD in CBT, particularly those focused on CYPs and / or eating disorders
Experience
- Experience of working with children, adolescents and their families within mental health settings
- Experience of specialist mental health assessment of and treatment with children, adolescents and their families
- Practice experience of providing cognitive-behavioural interventions, including assessment and formulation
- Experience using routine outcome measures and session feedback measures
- Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse, and threat of physical abuse
- Experience of assessment and intervention around eating disorders and / or Neurodiversity
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of multi-agency work.
- Experience of teaching, supervision and/or consultation.
- Experience of the application of mental health knowledge and skills in different cultural contexts
Knowledge
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health
- An understanding of the impact of abuse, trauma and other adverse experiences on children and families.
- Knowledge of Child protection policies and procedures
- Understanding of the evidence base in relation to child mental health
- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BABCP (dependent on grade).
- Skills in the use of complex methods of mental health assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
- Ability to formulate comprehensive assessments and offer effective treatment based on clinical theory and principles, particularly cognitive-behavioural models
- Skills and the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to CYPs, their families carers, and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour
- Knowledge of other therapeutic approaches
- Ability to adapt CBT for neurodiverse populations
